| Just AwfulFirst, many of the types of questions in the 6 practice exams are pointless to study, since you won't encounter anything remotely resembling them on the real GRE. Second, the explanations of the solutions are rarely satisfactory. Third, the review section is a complete joke and, like the questions in the practice exams, many of the topics it covers are completely worthless with regards to the GRE (e.g. cubic spline interpolation, fourier series). I didn't read the review section very thoroughly (though I did glance over subtitles, so I know that a lot of time-wasting material was included), but what I did look at in some depth was poorly explained.
All of this said, the book isn't entirely useless. If you use it as a companion to a better GRE prep book (cracking the GRE) and have a discerning eye for what will and won't be necessary to study, it does offer some good review questions if you have time to weed through it.

And with that tantalizing opening, Greer begins to unravel the tale, and the life, of Max Tivoli, a man who is born a wizened infant of 70 and then "ages" in reverse. The premise is, of course, far-fetched, but disbelief is suspended in the face of such sensitive and honest characterizations. Not only Max, whose confessions we are reading, but all the characters are portrayed with such depth that we are drawn into the tragedy - hook, line and sinker - even when we know the inevitable outcome.
Seldom have I read of book of such understated intensity. Greer is a marvelous writer who can nail a character with very few words. Like Nabokov, he has the ability to describe a setting with such pinpoint accuracy as to make you feel as if you are present, or perhaps as if you have never truly seen moonlight before. But, best of all, Greer never, ever makes you feel as if you are reading a book. You are reading a life. And in the end, when all the sad obsessions of Max, Alice and Hughie are said and done, you are simply left with the question: Whose life am I the love of?

| Thoroughly mediocreI have a two hour commute each day and I'm trying to utilize that time in some positive fashion. I'm studying for the GRE and was looking for something I could listen to that would contribute to this goal/project. This was a waste of money, since I knew 98% of the words. Also, a few words I thought were not very well described, and the sentances were contrived. The way they use two words with the same root in a sentance seems to be a sure fire way in my book to help someone confuse the two words' meaning. On the plus side, buying this CD set has now made me see the futility of this method of studying for the GRE, and saved me from investing in a more expensive CD set. If like me, you're studying for the GRE, my advice to you is to set aside time to read scholarly journals or essay collections, dictionary in hand.

| Not the best use of your timeI started preparing for the test with this book, Cracking the GRE, and have since moved on to the Kaplan book. I wish I'd started with the Kaplan. Cracking the GRE reads like a grocery list, whereas the Kaplan book reads like a textbook. If you prefer strict word-pair memorization as a method of study, Cracking the GRE is fine. But if you're like me, and find it easier to remember a term if you feel you understand the term's full meaning, go with the Kaplan book. It just has way more information, which really helps me remember things.
Don't get me wrong, this book will probably help you score more points on the test, but I feel the Kaplan book helped me much more. Plus, it was a better read, and I may have actually learned something about Psychology in the process.
