I bought several courses. The cards offer basic concepts in small bites. The information was relevant to what was presented by my teacher. The cards and CD's gave good review before exams and a head start at the start of the new school year. The cards had a lot of questions; you can carry them in your pocket and learn a few each day. The software was easy to use. It is like the cards but on the screen. You can take a test or just review. Front is question, click for answer on back of card. The software can also show the cards on the screen at random, first the question, then the answer. They change every few seconds. That keeps you reading and wondering what's coming up next. It's entertaining while you're studying.

good book !

I was lucky to find this book to improve upon my skills for GRE's analytical writing section (introduced as of october 2002). The author describes effective writing techniques by recommending a set of rules & showing instances of each of them in action. The examples provided would be most useful to a reader because it shows what to avoid & how to rewrite sentences more effectively.

CAUTION!: This book/CD has EXCACTLY the same CD/software like the "The Very Best Coaching and Study Course for the New Gre General Test". I bought both of them and I wasted my money since I care only for the CD/software. I contains three CATS which is good but it is not even in my top 5 recommendations for the GRE.

Use this book as intended

DANTES stands for "Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education Support." It is a U.S. Department of Defense program that allows military and other eligible personnel to test out of basic college courses via the DSST (Dantes Standardized Subject Tests). This reduces the number of courses personnel need to take to obtain their Associate's or Bachelor's degrees.

This series of DSST books is not intended to be used to learn course material (try Schaum's Outline series); rather they serve as an evaluation of current knowledge for determining further study needs or as a practice exam for the DSST.

For this very narrow purpose, the Rudman/NLC books do the job. Other tests -- particularly at the graduate level -- need different books.

As everyone else has said, the book is chock full of errors. Almost to the point one wonders if anyone took the time to edit. STAY AWAY!!!!!

A useful purchase

I hope to have found what i need to prepare for the Gre quantitative and have good scores. Before buying this product i tried the most known ones, Kaplan, Princeton Review and Barron among others, but they have all been of little use. My first GRE scores were poor, especially the math section of the test.
This book seems more detailed than others, with good explanations and, most of all,it avoids giving you the supposedly "magic tricks" to solve maths problems without using the proper math calculations and algebra (like many other books do ) which, in the end, it's not the best way to get the right answers.
The only problem is that some solutions suggested are not the fastest, and time is crucial in the GRE test.
Overall, it's a good practice book and it's worth buying.

poorly written

I bought the book to prep for the written portion of GRE. I think I got 4.5 out of the written portion but not because of the help of the book.

I think it is horribly written. I wish I had not wasted the money on it
