| Review of 'Isocrates: Volume I'This volume contains (in some other order) Against the Sophists, Helen, Busiris, Demonicus, Nicocles, To Nicocles, On the Team of Horses, Evagoras, Aegineticus, and Antidosis, Against Euthynus, Trapeziticus, and Against Callimachus.
This is my second experience with the OCG collection, and I am again very, very pleased. There is plenty of introductory material, and still more supplementary material given through footnotes. There is an introduction to Greek oratory in general, to Isocrates in particular, and then to each speech specifically. Both translators do excellent work. All in all, this is what a translated work should look like.

| if you take the GRE psychology test, you must buy this bookI bought this book in December 2007 in preparation for the April 2008 GRE Psychology test. I have been out of college for a few years and only took one psychology course (Intro to Psych) as an undergraduate. As someone coming back to psychology after an extended absence and after forgetting most of the material, I found this book indispensable. There are some errors and confusing sections, but there is nothing out there that matches this book in terms of the breadth of coverage and the clear, concise explanations throughout that vast majority of its content. If you plan on taking the GRE Psychology test, buy this book and do the practice tests (even though they are geared towards the material in the study guide, taking any practice tests you can get your hands on, including the one that ETS provides, is great preparation)
That being said, at best, this book will prepare you for 50-60% of the material you will see on the GRE. I learned the rest of the material with Weiten's Psychology. By studying from those two books and taking 4 practice tests, I was able to score a 740 (92nd percentile).

| Good for questions, little elseWhy can't someone make a good chemistry GRE review book? This one is rife with errors, obsolete questions, and has the test format wrong (too many questions per a given period of time). The answers are helpful, but for many I ended up having to look them up anyway. And when I say errors, I mean many errors which will have you scratching your head to answer a question only to realize the right answer does not exist, as it is obscured by a typo. Occasionally their answers are scientifically incorrect as well.
That said, this book has some value, but mostly if you've already reviewed the material and are simply looking to practice.
All and all, it might be worth the money to have some extra practice problems. But this book is good for little else. You'll need textbooks.
