One of the best GRE books

This is a great book that teaches some strategies to answer the questions on the GRE. It is much more useful than the books by Kaplan and ETS, although there are some minor errors scattered in the book. The online practice tests are difficult, but that will push you to study even harder and I got a higher-than-expected score.

Useful flashcards

Lots of new vocabulary. A word, its type (noun, adjective, etc.), and its pronunciation are on one side of the card; a definition, a brief example of the word in a sentence, and synonyms are on the other side. They come alphabetically organized.
The box containing the cards is sturdy and the cards are made of good material, resistant to moderately frequent use. Maybe a small envelope to carry a couple dozen cards at a time would be a good addition, since carrying the whole box is not so convenient.
Overall, a great acquisition.

extremely helpful

I purchased this after looking at a friend's copy. The book itself is very thorough, has lots of practice questions. I liked this better than other books I used because it deals with the skills you need to answer the GRE questions effectively, not just review of the concepts. The online features you get with the book are excellent - lots more practice quizzes and tests. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is planning to take the GRE.

A Great and Helpful Book

Barron's Essential Words for the GRE is an excellent resource for vocabulary preparation for the Graduate Record Exam. There are exercises that enable the student to test their knowledge of the words studied in proper context as well as a post test to gauge one's readiness for the actual exam. The book is very practical and well written! I highly recommend it.

Just on the mark

The book contains, among other things, previous years sample tests on GRE. Form this point of view, one can practice 'real tests' and get quiet an accurate understanding of what the real GRE looks like. I named the review 'just on the mark' because I think the book is just on the mark of what one needs to sufficiently prepare for the targeted GRE score.

I do not think this book is brand new, because I find the cover of the book is not flat. Maybe that is because of shipping. They shipped the book quite soon.

Kaplan Math

This book was excellent for word problems! I liked the way that the chapters are organized and the practice with quantitative comparison exercises. This book is better than the Barron's math workbook.

Excellent practice and prep!

I used it for 2 months to re-take the computer-based GRE. It definitively increase my performance on the test, although it has a weakness in the prep-tools for the analytical writing section of the test. Nonetheless, it has hundreds of good practice exercises for all question types on the GRE. But remember: this is not a book to review on one week; it won't work! You need at least 2 months to prepare for the CBT-GRE.

Fantastic

They're flashcards, and they have math and words. Simple.

But, sure enough, a bunch of the words ended up appearing on my GRE exam, and I ended up with a very decent verbal score. I used the math cards as well, but, since I suck at math anyway, I didn't place too much emphasis on the cards and still came up with a good score.

I recommend these cards to just about anyone studying for the GRE. They're great for taking along traveling; I used them on the train to and fro work, and still use them to my lexicon high weeks after having taken the GRE.

Crazy amount of typos

I have both the 2009 and this 2010 version. I honestly don't think an editor proof-read this book. It's full of horrendous and painfully obvious typos.

The text is nearly identical to the 2009 version but with more typos. Apparently, Kaplan can't even copy and paste correctly.

Waste of money even at $14. Buy a used 2009 version.
