| Major Kindle Formatting IssuesKaplan's Portable GRE Exam has excellent content. I prefer the paperback Barron's GRE: Graduate Record Examination that I also purchased, but since that generally stays back while I carry my Kindle with me, I have used Kaplan's a great deal more. Both of them are far superior to Peterson's 30 Days to the GRE CAT, though in all fairness that work is quite dated at this point. In particular, I think Kaplan does a fine and thorough job of breaking down the verbal section of the test and providing good strategies to attack it. I'm not a big fan of many of their mathematical explanations, but it may just be rubbing me the wrong way since it seems rather dumbed-down.
My main point of contention with this product is the poor job of formatting. Somewhere in the conversion process most of the vocabulary words that Barron's suggests you study became clumped together sotheyformonegiantnoncoherentsentencegoingonforpageafterpage. Not only does this make it difficult simply to read the words in order to see what Kaplan's is suggesting, this also detracts from one of the main advantages of the Kindle version of the study guide - you cannot simply bring the cursor up to look up the odd word whose definition you are unfamiliar with. While you could exit out of Kaplan's to look up the word in the dictionary, doesn't that remove a great deal of the utility of the Kindle itself? One of my original purposes in purchasing this device was to use it for school books and study guides, and now the publisher's poor quality assurance/quality control has made that point moot. So buyer beware until Kaplan's reformats this. Four out of five stars for good content and clear writing, minus one for this major Kindle issue.

RIPOFFBuy this if you want to throw away money. I bought this purely for the CAT test online offering. Apparently, Princeton Review are not honoring their claim of 4 full length practice tests or other online tools. Entering the text serial number @ [...]
/cracking (per instruction) produces a "Cannot Display Page" error.
Entering the ISBN (alternatively) produces a No Offer Found page from PR.
Emailing tech support produces a bounced email response.
I've tried IE, Mozilla, and Chrome browsers.
For me, the online tools were the entire point of purchasing this text. I purchased 2010 edition - no joy. Figured they were focusing on 2011 edition... same results. Disgruntled? Yes. Rarely I have encountered such boldly fraudulent product claims.
If you like tossing away your money... enjoy. [Amazon, I hope you're taking note.]

Poor Editing, Overall Mediocre ProductBarron's 18th Edition for the GRE will likely help you prepare for the exam better than sitting at home watching paint dry or maybe reading Kaplan's version. This book is poorly edited, mistakes abound and are frustrating to the observant reader, and the format of the examples are not always intuitive. I have noticed errors in several sections, and it has irked me enough that I have stopped studying to write a scathing review. For example, the word definition for "colloquy" in their word list is "informal discussion," when it "informal" should be "formal." The only usage of colloquy in which it would be informal would be related to theological discussions. Another instance of frustrating mistakes is in some of their examples, they simply omit what the correct answer is. On one of their graphic interpretation practice questions, the question is reversed: instead of asking how much less, the question asks for how much more. Only in the answer section do you realize that the author/editor made an oversight, rather than your inability to answer the question.
I will mention again that this book will help you in your preparations for the GRE and possibly more so than Kaplan (in my opinion, which they simply have wrong answers). But that is like saying the urinal smells better than the toilet. However, these books are simply too poorly put together and little care was taken to refine these prep books. I only gave this book 2 stars (vs. 1 star), because I believe it to be marginally better than Kaplan in terms of quality. That is to say, Barron's GRE book is slightly less crappy. The other reason is its "Master Word List" which contains 3500 vocabulary words used commonly. This may be the one redeeming quality of this book, providing mostly accurate definitions with the words used in context on a large volume of vocab words.
Conclusion: This book is not good, but not as bad as comparable products out there. I have not tried Princeton Review products in detail, but they are generally more expensive with essentially the same content. One redeeming quality of Barron's is its word list. If you do purchase this book, buy it for this vocab list. Better yet, if your local library has a copy of these books, borrow it from there.
Update:
Took the GRE again, Verbal score went up 90 points, Quantitative score had no improvement.

DisappointingI bought a variety of GRE study materials, and the Kaplan cards were my least favorite. The words are good, but all that is provided is a simple definition. The Barron's flashcards have definitions, antonyms, a sample sentence completion and a sample analogy. The Kaplan cards were far more simple, which some people might prefer. I happen to prefer more thorough cards, so I was disappointed with these. The cards themselves are very small (roughly the size of the Chance and Community Chest cards in Monopoly) and are very, very thin. I guess some people might like how small they are, but I would have preferred something sturdier. Overall, there were too many deficiencies for these cards to be useful to me and I would not recommend them.
